This all started on July 22 as enforcement directorate (ED) officials started a direct action on the investigation of the multi- crore WBSSC (West Bengal School Service Commission) on the allegation of recruitment irregularity scam. They started conducting raids in 13 places simultaneously throughout the state. The raid included the accommodation of former West Bengal education minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general, Partha Chatterjee as well.
The next day ED officials got to know about West Bengal commerce and industries minister Arpita Mukherjee. She was the close adviser of Partha Chatterjee. The ED team started carrying out a search operation at his flat in the Posh Diamond City complex in Tollygunge, South Kolkata. The ED officials began recovering huge treasures and supporting documents of the WBSSC recruitment scam from Arpita Mukherjee’s home. The officials started revealing the huge financial investment behind the WBSSC recruitment scam that indicated the direct connection of Partha Chatterjee. And next, Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee both got arrested by the ED officials and taken into custody.
Recovery from the residence of Arpita Mukherjee
The ED officials found Rs 21.20 crore of cash, around worth Rs 60 lakh of foreign currencies, around worth Rs 90 lakhs of gold ornaments, 20 high-cost Apple iPhones, sale documents of eight flats, and documents of multiple high-quality passenger vehicles.

The Mysterious Diaries found
At the time of the probe, the ED officials found two mysterious diaries at the residence of Arpita Mukherjee. One of them was a black executive diary and the other was a pocket diary. The black executive diary was named “Department of Education- Government of West Bengal”. It was reported that both the diaries were full of codes, which were given to the experts to decode. The ED sleuths confirmed that the handwriting in both the diaries does not match the handwriting of Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee. Hence, it was confirmed that a third party was also connected to the scam.
Another woman suspected
At the time of interrogation Arpita Mukherjee revealed the name of another woman in front of ED officials. The lady concerned was Monalisa Das, the head of the department of Bengali at state-run Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol, Burdwan District. The ED officials confirmed 10 flats that were registered in the name of Das, which was highly disproportionate to her income.
Arpita Mukherjee- The director of three Bogus Companies
It was found that Arpita Mukherjee was the director of three Bogus Companies. The names of the companies were Symbiosis Merchants Private Limited, Sentry Engineering Private Limited, and Ecchay Entertainment private limited. The ED officials had the suspicion that these companies were being used as the medium for teacher recruitment scams.
Property owned by Pratha Chatterjee
The estimated value of the property owned by Partha Chatterjee was over 100 crores or even more. The property was jointly owned by his close aides like Arpita Mukherjee and others. He had gifted these properties to his close associates.
Partha Chatterjee as lonely commerce and industry minister.
Chatterjee remained isolated in his own party. All the senior leaders of the Trinamool Congress party along with Mamta Banerjee stated that the onus was all on Chatterjee and not on the party.
